Summer Heat Safety Tips for Scooterists

St. Louis summers don’t mess around — and neither should you when it comes to riding in the heat. Whether you’re out for a lazy afternoon cruise through Forest Park or gearing up for a full-day of twisties outside of town, it’s important to keep heat stress in check.

Here are a few smart, simple tips to help you stay safe and cool on your scoot:

Hydrate Like a Champ

Start hydrating before you ride, and keep water on hand. A reusable bottle or hydration pack is a must — even short city rides can sneak up on you in 90+ degrees.

Gear Up, Don’t Strip Down

It sounds backwards, but light-colored, breathable riding gear with ventilation can keep you cooler than bare skin. Bonus: it protects you from sunburn and hot asphalt. And high-visibility gear can help you stand out in traffic.

Take Cooling Breaks

Find a shady spot at your favorite park. Or maybe enjoy the air conditioning at a roadside diner or gas station. Regular breaks help your body reset — especially during longer rides.

Know the Warning Signs

If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, weak, or confused, it’s time to stop and cool down immediately. Don’t try to “tough it out” — heat stress is no joke.

Ride Early or Late

Avoid the midday meltdown. Morning and evening rides are cooler, safer, and usually way more scenic.

Whether you’re cruising to Ted Drewes, hitting twisties in the countryside, or prepping for the next Vespa Club ride — take care of yourself out there. Summer scooting should be fun and safe.

See you on the road!
